Janet loves: white sneakers

Introducing a new series of posts with our fearless leader and fashion influencer Janet Kooyenga as she clues us in on her secrets to impeccable style.

"I was looking at the way they were styling these dresses...some of them were two, three thousand dollars. And they styled them with sneakers!" Janet says, talking about the last trade show she attended in February. "Trainers, sneakers, kicks, whatever you want to call them, they've found their way into every style. You can wear anything with sneakers."

We couldn't agree more, which is why we've compiled a list of her top five white sneakers to propel you into spring with comfort and style -- because beauty doesn't always have to mean pain. (At least not where these are concerned.) Here they are, in no particular order:

Janet's favorite: Gucci Ace Embroidered Sneaker with Bee Detail, $620

Although on the pricier end, nothing can beat these kicks with the Gucci stripe and signature bee which calls to mind the brand's first use of the symbol in the 1970s. White leather, red and green grosgrain ribbon, and a streamlined rubber sole add a twist to the traditional sneaker that is undeniably high-fashion, yet still wearable. And as you'll see from the photo above, Janet wears these at least once a week in the spring, if not more!

Cult classic: Golden Goose Superstar, $495

This Venetian brand has become a cult favorite since its inception in 2000, and it's easy to see why: their luxury ethos is evident both in their exuberant Italian style and their impeccable production. With mauve suede and metallic silver details in the classic Superstar style, these kicks give you an ultra-chic boost of understated femininity couched in practical luxury. (Catch us on the streets of Milan in these as we go out for our morning coffee.)

Crowd pleaser: Chuck Taylor All Star Low Top in Optical White, $50

The most budget-friendly option on this list also happens to be the most iconic. Who here hasn't rocked a pair of Converse, whether or not they played basketball in high school? Simple canvas and rubber meet in a timeless, streamlined silhouette that's perfect for chill spring vibes.

Most adaptable: Superga 2750 Cotu Classic in White, $65

For sheer versatility, you can't beat this basic, conservative shoe from Italian brand Superga. The 2750 Cotu Classic is functional in the best sense, taking you from your morning walk to errands to a nice brunch with minimal effort, and its minimalist look matches anything from exercise gear to a cute sundress. Men's, women's and children's sizes are all available--Janet says these are the shoes she bought for her daughters when they were little.

All-American throwback: Adidas Superstar Shoes in White, $80

First issued by the brand in 1969, these classics feature three black stripes and a generously padded interior for maximum athletic comfort. Leather uppers meet a shell toe and a rubber sole. We love their sporty vibe and universal appeal.

...and a bonus: looking for no-show socks to go with that? Janet says she's a huge fan of these, which won't ride down your heel and give you a blister in that one annoying spot.
