We're beyond excited to announce that we're teaming up with our friends at White + Warren for an exclusive trunk show at our Camden storefront from 11/19 to 11/25. For a limited time only, experience the sheer bliss of White + Warren cashmere...with 20% off on all trunk show items. Does holiday shopping get any better than this?
What's the deal with cashmere? Why is it special?
Cashmere is 8x warmer than regular wool, but much lighter. This can be attributed to the thinner, smoother fibers that make up cashmere vs. wool fabric. The fibers are taken from the undercoat of a particular species of goat. The wool of two such goats is necessary to make a single 2-ply cashmere sweater, which explains why high-quality cashmere is both rare and at a higher price point than most wool products.
Caring for cashmere
First of all, hands off the dryer! The best way to wash cashmere is by hand, with Woolite or a similar mild detergent. Lay the item flat on a towel and gently roll it up to absorb any excess moisture. Unroll and lay flat to dry. If there are wrinkles, don't iron them out! Use a steamer instead. Cashmere should be stored folded so as not to stretch it out. To prevent damage from moths, store in a cedar chest or in a cotton bag for extra protection as recommended by White + Warren. Cashmere items should be washed every 2-5 wears and at the end of every season (pro-tip: extend the time between washes by wearing a thin layering tee underneath your sweater--just as long as it covers your armpits). Easy, right?
